Painting at the Cat Cafe

PiCATso Watercolour Workshop at Southpaw Cat Cafe

I could not anticipate how difficult and hilarious it would be to simply “set up” for a workshop with 10+ cats! If it fits, it truly sits. Oh a piece of paper? Chew. Oh a box that you are trying to unpack? Sit. Oh a glass of paint water? Lick. Oh a jar of paintbrushes? Spill! Oh you’re trying to talk? Let’s whack those toes! It was quite the experience! And we can’t wait to do it again.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out for PiCATso Watercolour Workshop Round 1!  I was blown away by everyone's willingness to learn, experiment, and play. So many beautiful artworks were made, and I LOVE seeing what you guys come up with.

Thank you Scott, from SouthPaw Cat Cafe for having us! It was beyond fun. As an instructor it was a new experience teaching with 10+ cats in the room! SO many funny moments came out of the night! The cats definitely kept me on my toes - when they weren't swatting at my toes! They put on quite a show and were fascinated by all the art supplies and painting action - it's safe to say it made for great entertainment.

Southpaw is a cat cafe in Kingston, Ontario that opened its doors in November 2016. The cafe blends the owner's love of cats and coffee with his love of boxing! Hold on, what is a cat cafe, exactly? A cat cafe is a place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the company of playful cats. Yes, you can actually pet them while you sip your mocha. Yes, you can adopt them if you'd like to. We have a small breakfast and lunch menu, as well as a number of interesting and unique dessert options, for both vegans and non-vegans.

At a given time, we typically have between 5 to 8 friendly, adoptable cats in the cafe. If you're interested in adopting, visit our partners at Kingston Animal Rescue.
